Scholarship guidelines
Graduating High School Seniors
Hot Springs Village, Arkansas
(Revised January 2023)
Village United Methodist Church will award a minimum of $500 need-based scholarship to a high school
senior from the Fountain Lake, Jessieville and/or Mountain Pine high schools to pursue post-secondary
education from an accredited 4-year college/university or accredited vo-tech program that awards
certificates or associate degrees. Students who meet the guidelines listed below are eligible.
Guidelines:
1. Applicant must be a senior in high school and must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better for
college/university track or 2.5 or better for vo-tech track.
2. Applicant must fill out application form or include information listed on the form as part of the
application.
3. In addition to the form/requested information, the student must submit
a. School “Permanent Record Card” showing grade point, class standing, courses taken,
course grades and standardized test scores, if taken.
b. List of other financial aid applied for and any awarded.
c. A copy of Form 1040 through the line showing taxable income of your previous or
current year Federal tax return or comparable proof of financial need (W-2 alone is
insufficient) from the person (or persons), who has (have) declared the applicant as a
dependent.
d. a one, two- or three-part essay telling 1) how your faith (God) has affected your life
choices 2) how you decided what career to pursue and what steps you have taken so far to
prepare for it and 3) why this scholarship is necessary. Accurate spelling and proper
grammar will be evaluated.
4. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
Additional information:
1. Notice of scholarship availability, guidelines, and application form will be given to the
counselors/principals at Fountain Lake, Jessieville, and Mountain Pine high schools.
2. March 13, 2023, 3 p.m. shall be the deadline for RECEIVING the COMPLETE scholarship
packet. The award will be announced in time for the candidate to be recognized at their high
school awards ceremony.
3. A Scholarship Committee will review the applications and select applicants who best meet the
scholarship requirements.
4. Scholarship money will be paid directly to the candidate’s institution of choice to be used for
tuition, books, and fees. Any excess funds shall be returned to the scholarship fund.
