Growing Spiritually...    Sharing Christ...    Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world...

Our Core Values

  • Community - All people matter to God.
  • Worship - We are created for worship, and we honor God in our daily worship of Him alone.
  • Scripture - As a people of One Book, we hold to the primacy of the scriptures.  We teach them diligently.
  • Hospitality - We welcome and receive all people as sisters and brothers in Christ.
  • Evangelism - We make a priority in sharing Christ with others as we answer the call of the Great Commission.
  • Family - Whether young or old, seasoned Christian or new convert, together we are the Body of Christ redeemed by His blood.
  • Discipleship - We choose and commit to live following the example of Christ every day.

We hold to Wesley's General Rules:  Do no harm.  Do good.  Stay in love with God.

Congregational Care

With over 360 full members and more than 500 who call VUMC home, it takes all of us to provide care and support for one another.  As the priesthood of believers we all work together to watch over one another in love.  We find our model for pastoral care in Acts 20:28 as Paul teaches the church in Ephesus:  "Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son."

Our Pastoral Care team - clergy and laity alike - is designed to provide compassion, care and support to any who have need in every season of life, even when crisis and difficulties arise.  We are available to visit, provide a listening ear, and to pray.

Our pastoral care team is led by our Senior Pastor, the Rev. Chris Hemund, and includes:
  • Our Associate Pastor for Visitation, the Rev. Regina Turner, who oversees visitation for homebound members and local facility residents.
  • Community Life, coordinated by staff member Lee Ann Branch, assists all new persons in getting connected to the church, finding their place to serve, and coordinating our Shepherd Groups.
  • Shepherd Groups organize all members into care communities loosely based on geography to provide support, fellowship, and community for all persons.
  • Spiritual Director Mary Anne Settle teaches Enneagram classes and is available for one-on-one visits for those desiring to deepen their walk of discipleship and faith.
  • Our Prayer Team, who meets weekly via Zoom gathering for intentional intercessory prayer.
  • A variety of Support Groups are offered throughout the year, coordinated by both staff and lay members.  Call the church office to learn more about grief support, Alzheimer's support, AA, and Weight Watchers

If you desire a listening ear, someone to pray with, or if you are in need, call on us anytime.  It is our pleasure to serve you.

What does it mean to be United Methodist?

The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

In a nutshell, United Methodists are:
  • People of Grace - We are fully dependent upon God's redeeming and transforming grace.  We believe God loves all people, and we share in that expression of love with all people.
  • Connectional - We are a global denomination.  Every United Methodist congregation is connected to every other one.
  • Missional - We faithfully serve others in Jesus’ name and proclaim the gospel through word and deed.  We put faith and love into action.
  • Practical - Wesley called on the Methodists to live out our faith in a way that changes us and others for Christ.
  • Inclusive - We practice an "Open Table", all persons are welcome at the Lord's Table for communion, and there is always rooms for one more...
